Witchwood tells a tale this fall

Alientrap has already proven its flexibility across genres with games like Apotheon and Cryptark, both of which offered stylistically new approaches to platforming and shooting, respectively. The studio is now turning its attention to a new crafting and adventure game called Wytchwood, and players can look forward to seeing results when it releases later this fall.

Details in the post on PlayStation BlogWitchwood puts you in the weathered old shoes of a swamp witch, whose potions and spells can be used to solve any number of problems. The witch in question has made what appears to be a reckless dark pact, and she doesn’t remember how or why. Going in search of an answer, you interact with various fairy-tale characters and creatures.

From early descriptions, much of the gameplay revolves around collecting and combining the various spell ingredients gathered from different animals, plants, and monsters in the world.

Wytchwood features a striking and colorful storybook art style that is immediately striking. The game’s visuals skillfully conjure up the whimsical fairytale atmosphere the developer seeks to evoke. And while many fearsome monsters seem to dwell in the wilderness, most of the first glimpses of the game suggest that the focus is on puzzle and conversation rather than combat. As far as the people you meet, it seems like the witch has the ability to either help solve a person’s dilemma or make judgment and aggravate the situation with curses and spells.

Published by Whitehorn Games, Alientrap plans to release Wytchwood on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC before the end of the year. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions are at least mentioned for release this fall.
