Vanguard Alpha coming to PlayStation August 27-29 – PlayStation Blog

Calling all PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 owners! Following the announcement of Call of Duty: Vanguard just a few days ago, we are excited to announce even more good news: From August 27 at 10:00 AM PT to August 29 at 10:00 AM PT, you can take part in Call of Duty: Vanguard PlayStation Alpha, featuring Sledgehammer Games’ groundbreaking new game mode, Champion Hill.

This PlayStation-exclusive alpha is not only the first opportunity to play the newest multiplayer mode in the Call of Duty franchise, but also the first opportunity to play Call of Duty: Vanguard before its release on November 5th. This will be just a small fraction of the overall multiplayer offering coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard after its launch, but this is a great chance for PlayStation players to get hold of the game and provide valuable feedback to Sledgehammer Games.

Most PlayStation players do not require a PlayStation Plus subscription *. All you need to participate is a console and internet connection, no pre-order is required.

Before diving into the details of how you can access the alpha, we’d like to give you some background information on what Champion Hill is, as well as a few tips to help you succeed.

Primer Champion Hill

Sledgehammer Games is proud to present Champion Hill, a multiplayer survival tournament that combines tactics and strategy with quick close-range gunfights. This mode is based on impressive gameplay, from intense periods of combat to decisions made in between.

In Champion Hill, your squad – which will be either a duo (2v2) or a trio (3v3) during alpha testing – will compete in a round robin with seven other squads, with each squad having a set number of lives to start with. … The challenge is to reduce the lives of all other units to zero in a series of time-limited combat rounds before the same happens to you. Do this and win the Champion Hill.

In this mode, everyone starts out with the same equipment, but you will collect money by taking the lives of enemies and collecting drops scattered around the map. This money will allow you to upgrade your starting weapon and acquire new weapons, equipment, perks, and kill streaks during the buy rounds that occur between combat rounds.

The real strategy manifests itself in the buy rounds (more on this below). No two matches are going to be the same, as how you use the money throughout each match (for example, holding it for larger upgrades over the course of the rounds, or using it for smaller, more incremental upgrades along the way) will greatly change how you and your squad to oppose any other squad. This is a chess match that has tons of opportunities to dynamically evolve as each match progresses.

But anyone knows that a good strategy is only as good as its implementation. And with that, players can rest assured that their skills in these combat rounds will determine whether glory is earned or not.

Another unique aspect of Champion Hill is that it consists of four maps combined to form the Champion Hill arena. Specifically, there is a central Buy Station area and four battle arenas: Runway, Trainyard, Market and Courtyard. The cool thing about this setup is that after you’re eliminated, you can watch the tournament continue from the Buy Station Area viewer platform. You can also press the Up Direction Button to enter Observation Mode, a bird’s eye view of the battle, or select an area to see the battle through the eyes of a competitor. But ideally it doesn’t come to that. Let’s discuss a few ways to help you get to the top of Champion Hill.

Tips on how to become the last surviving squad

Know your enemy:

As mentioned above, in Buy Rounds, you and your team can use the money you earn to upgrade your gear (including weapons, perks, and kill streaks).

The key here is not only to focus on your firepower, but also to pay attention to the style and equipment with which other units gather in each combat round. It might be worth opposing the pick of the strongest enemy’s weapons or perks, that is, picking a specific weapon that works best in situations where he is weak, or a perk that overcomes their strengths.

At a basic level, understanding how aggressive or vigilant other units are will go a long way toward getting you closer to the next buy round to defeat them.

Diversify your approach:

Try using a few different tactical approaches for each match until you figure out where your rhythm is.

For example, in one match, it might make sense to make sure you are not far behind from the start. This could mean that you spend money each round of buying, building up firepower and keeping the serve with the rest of the teams. If that works, and you find yourself one of the last two teams remaining, you could very well find yourself in a skirmish between equally armed opponents, where your squad’s combat skills will be critical.

Or it might make sense to keep the money you earn along the way, either by making more modest (cheaper) upgrades during each purchase round, or by doing nothing at all. It’s until the very end, when you’ve saved up enough cash to buy a kill streak (or perhaps a V2 rocket) that could wipe out the lives of the remaining squads in one fell swoop. There is no need for a final knockdown and puff fight here.

Each has its own advantages and risks, and this can mean taking a few different shots from both tactical approaches to see which one works best for you and your team.

Safe Bet – Focus on Armaments:

If you’re having trouble claiming victory in this mode, try to upgrade your starting weapon as early as possible. Upgrading your starting weapon is cost effective and will help you get more bonuses for winning the first few matches. When you have a lot of money later in the game, you may want to consider replacing the secondary weapon with whatever LMG or sniper you were eyeing.

These are just a few tips to get you started with this incredibly exciting new mode that Sledgehammer Games is bringing to Call of Duty: Vanguard, and which PlayStation players will experience in Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha, which launches on August 27th.
