The PlayStation 5 consoles have reportedly been updated, but with a couple of minor differences between the old and new models. The Australian edition reported that the new batch of PS5 consoles arriving in the country has a different model number from the original PS5. Among the changes between consoles, the newer model is about 300 grams lighter, although it’s unclear what led to this weight loss.
Sony released the PlayStation 5 last November, making it the company’s best-selling console ever. Now it looks like Sony has decided to update a bit. A report The Australian edition of Press Start reports that the new PS5 models in the country have a different model number – CFI-1102A. As mentioned from The Verge, the original PS5 came with the model number CFI-1000.
In terms of differences, Press Start indicates that the new consoles are about 300 grams lighter than the original and have a different type of screw for attaching the stand. It’s unclear what changes were made to the console to reduce weight, but they have a different screw and a new base clamp design. A new screw allows you to manually attach and remove the stand without using a screwdriver, just like the original console screw.
The publication also indicates that Australia was the first country to receive a stock of the updated PS5, but tweet from user (@ bdp2007) in the US shows that the revised console got there as well. User-supplied image shows the differences between the two basic PS5 stands. The user also indicates that he bought the standard disc version of the PS5 about two weeks ago.
