UK charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe beats Call Of Duty to take bronze

It’s a new year and we have the latest UK charts for early 2023 (though they technically cover the last week of 2022). There are no big surprises or new entries this week, just a little shuffle of the top ten games. In the first place is the Santa Monica Studio. God of War Ragnarokmoving up two positions and beating second place FIFA 23.
Interestingly, the Switch version of FIFA 23 was the first alongside the PlayStation 4 version in terms of platform split, accounting for 28%. It just goes to show that EA’s lack of effort with the Nintendo platform seems to be paying off, at least in the UK.
Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe made it to third place, knocking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II to fourth, despite a 40% drop in sales. Modern Warfare II sales, down 64%, may have given the Nintendo racer the little boost needed to win bronze.
This week, Sonic Frontiers held onto its tenth spot, dropping from seventh. Once again, the Switch version dominated box sales, accounting for a whopping 53% of the platform distribution. Finally, Animal Crossing: New Horizons returned to the top ten and took eighth place, moving up four spots from the previous week.
Last thing to note: according to Christopher Dring in GamesIndustry.biztotal box sales in 2022 are down about 10% compared to 2021.
