Ubisoft Forward: Several new Assassin’s Creed games announced, franchise move to Baghdad, Feudal Japan and more

The future of Assassin’s Creed was revealed today at Ubisoft Forward, and it all starts in 2023 with Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The action takes place in ninth century Baghdad. Assassin’s Creed Mirage focuses on the coming-of-age story of Basim ibn Ishaq, the Hidden One, presented in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Two additional flagship Assassin’s Creed games, Codename Assassin’s Creed Red as well as Codename Assassin’s Creed Hexe, was also teased, with the former set in the highly anticipated setting of feudal Japan. Both names will be part Codename Assassin’s Creed Infinity center.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

A shorter, more narrative game than recent entries in the series. Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes place 20 years before the events Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as players meet 17-year-old Basim (now voiced by Lee Majdub), who struggles with nightmare visions and lives the life of a cunning street thief. Luckily for Basim, the Hidden Ones (including his mentor Roshan, voiced by Shohreh Aghdashloo) see his potential and help him escape Baghdad for the Hidden One’s stronghold, Alamut. By studying their mysterious rituals and powerful principles, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature and come to understand a new Creed that will change his fate in ways he could not imagine.

Created as a tribute to the first Assassin’s Creed games, Mirage pays homage to the series’ origins as players join the proto-assassin order known as the Hidden Ones and become master assassins. Baghdad was a bustling metropolis in the ninth century, and it serves as the perfect dense urban hunting ground as Basim tracks down his prey using the series’ largest toolbox to date. Although at this point in history they have not yet fully adopted the name “Assassins”, make no mistake: The Hidden Ones are a powerful and established order, with resources and an all-important Creed that guides them. While exploring Baghdad, Basim will be able to obtain contracts and upgrades from the Hidden One bureau network throughout the city, as well as gather clues about his targets and take them down with quick kills.

Of course, Assassins’ biggest advantage lies in their ability to climb, and as the series returns to large-scale urban environments, Basim will need to jump across rooftops, climb tall towers, and outrun guards while parking seamlessly across four different districts of Baghdad. When information cannot be gained by collecting clues, Bashim Enkidu’s eagle can take to the skies, explore areas, and mark enemies for Bashim to destroy them unnoticed.
