We still don’t have Netflix on Nintendo Switch, but we’re now one step closer to being able to use it both as a platform for watching and as a game, because Twitch just arrived on the Nintendo Switch eShop…
The streaming platform is already on other consoles like PS4, PS5 and all the various Xbox, but now Switch is joining, more than four years after launch.
Here is a description of the online store:
“Watch live gameplay, esports, and any IRL broadcasts on your Nintendo Switch!
Sports are here. Tune in to your favorites: basketball, baseball, soccer, football, swimming, wrestling, hockey, pool and more with talk shows, league channels, fantasy and esports. ”
And a warning:
“Please Note: This app uses proprietary Nielsen measurement software that assists in market research such as Nielsen TV Ratings. Please visit http://priv-policy.imrworldwide.com/priv/mobile/us/en/optout.html for more information.“
The app size is 31 MB. Also, it doesn’t look like you can use chat or view chat unless you’re actually watching the stream, and you can’t stream games from the Switch either. When viewing a stream, your only options are to pause, hide the UI, or close the stream.
However, it is possible to authorize your account to use the chat on your mobile phone while browsing.
The quality of the stream seems to be ok, although we had a few issues where it would go back a couple of seconds and play it, and it seems to automatically adjust the quality as well.
This is how it looks:
And soon after that, he crashed:
Good. Maybe Switch isn’t the best place to watch Twitch, then.
