Release Sonic Origins is fast approaching, and as excited as many fans are about this upcoming 4-in-1 collection, there’s still one question that keeps coming up – will it be released on physical media?

Kathy Chrzanowski, social media manager for Sega of America, touched on the subject again in the latest issue. Official Sonic stream on YouTube – reiterating that a physical release is currently not planned. The good news is the teamwe assume it’s Sega) “knows” about the demand for the physical version. Crossed fingers.

“Not scheduled at the moment, I’ve seen a lot of comments asking for this so the team has been briefed on this, there is a need for a physical release.”

This follows from the same source confirming (via social media) that there will be no physical version of Origins when the release date was announced last week:

For the physical collector, this means you’ll either have to use the digital copy available through the Switch eShop and several other digital platforms, or wait in the hope that Sega will announce a paper copy of the game sooner rather than later.

If you buy the game right after it’s released and pre-order it in advance, you’ll also unlock some additional features, which you can learn more about in our previous story.

Will you be playing Sonic Origins after release? Let us know about it in the comments.
