We’ve said for years that sumo wrestling is basically the same as Pokemon, except for more consensus and less ball catching from a defeated opponent. Now the two are finally becoming one as the Pokémon Company becomes the official sponsor of sumo wrestling in partnership with Nihon Sumo Kyokai (H / T Kotaku for translation).

As part of the collaboration, The Pokémon Company sponsors several kensho banners that are displayed in the sumo wrestling ring before the match. The banners will feature famous Pokémon, from Pikachu to Makuhita, whose designs are based on images of sumo wrestlers. There will be 200 different banners in total.
