Update # 2 [Thu 8th Jul, 2021 02:33 BST]: In an update on social media, Capcom confirmed the physical version of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin no requires a download or installation to start playing and apologizes for any confusion.
That said, there will be a patch one day, which will require 0.5 GB of free space. Here are the full details:
Update # 1: Looks like this might be another example of a Capcom game that has a wrong impression box – we all remember that. Revelaitons of Resident Evil – as a North American player got a quick copy and stated that they can play the game without any necessary download. As you can see from our no-commission approach we don’t want to say that this is 100% true at this point, but considering that there is no download requirement indicated on EU-based sales boxes, it seems a mistake localized print.
Let’s take a look outside for more definitive updates.
Original article [Sun 4th Jul, 2021]:
Here’s some news that physical collectors will find quite pertinent – the retail version Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin you might need to download it. And it can be more than just a one-day patch.
According to Nintendo Everything, the photos he received of the North American game box (from a sales worker) seem to indicate that a download will be required to play the hard copy of the game. On the front, it says “download required” and on the back, it’s mentioned how the game requires a download of at least 15 GB. The eShop file size list is 13.5 GB.
While storage requirements aren’t necessarily an issue – especially if you own a MicroSD card, there’s also the issue of the physical copy that doesn’t feature the entire game, which some you may feel defeated the goal of buying a hard copy in the first place.
Capcom has made no mention of the game requiring a download of this size before and there is no reference elsewhere, so luckily this is just a wrong impression. If we hear anything else, we update this post.
