Happy New Year everyone.
I am thrilled to kick off 2022 with news of our next-gen virtual reality system for PS5, starting with the official name: PlayStation VR2, and our new PlayStation VR2 Sense virtual reality controller.
PlayStation VR2 takes virtual gaming to a whole new level, providing a greater sense of presence and immersing players in the game world like never before. With the headset and controllers in hand, gamers will experience a heightened range of sensations unlike anything else, thanks to the creativity of gaming worlds created by our top-notch developers and the latest technology embedded in hardware.
Building on our PS5 innovations, the PlayStation VR2 offers a true next-generation experience with high-quality visuals, new touch features and improved tracking, and simplified one-cable setup.
- Visual Accuracy: PS VR2 offers high quality 4K HDR visual experience, 110 degree field of view and foveal rendering. With an OLED display, gamers can look forward to a 2000×2040 screen resolution per eye and a smooth 90/120 Hz frame rate.
- Headset based controller tracking: Inside Out Tracking PS VR2 tracks you and your controller with the built-in cameras built into the VR headset. Your movements and the direction you look in are reflected in the game without the need for an external camera.
- New touch functions: PS VR2 Sense technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D audio and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller for an incredibly immersive experience. Headset Feedback is a new sensory feature that enhances the player’s gaming experience. It is crafted with a single built-in vibration motor that adds an intelligent tactile element to bring players closer to the gameplay. For example, gamers can feel the character’s quickened heart rate during stressful moments, the movement of objects passing close to the character’s head, or the thrust of a vehicle as the character rushes forward. Plus, Tempest 3D AudioTech for PS5 brings the sounds around the player to life for a more immersive experience.
- Eye tracking: With gaze tracking, PS VR2 recognizes the movement of your eyes, so simply looking in a specific direction can create additional input for the game character. This allows players to interact more intuitively in new and realistic ways, providing increased emotional response and improved expression, which brings a new level of realism to gaming.
All of these PlayStation VR2 enhancements, combined with tactile feedback and adaptive triggers on PS VR2 Sense controllers, allow gamers to feel and interact much more intuitively with games. PS VR2 will also have an easy setup process – with a single cable plugged directly into the PS5, you’ll be instantly immersed in VR.
Today, we’re also pleased to announce that one of the biggest PlayStation exclusive franchises is coming to PS VR2 – Horizon Call of the Mountain from Guerrilla and Firesprite. This original game is created exclusively for PS VR2 and will allow players to immerse themselves deeper into the world of Horizon.
Hope you enjoyed today’s exciting updates. Just remember that this is just an anticipation of things to come, and I can’t wait to share with you more details on PS VR2. In the meantime, below is a list of the official specifications.
