French company Microids has partnered with Japanese veteran Taito to release a new installment in the Arkanoid series: Arkanoid: Eternal Battle. It is expected to launch next year and be developed by French studio Pastagames (Rayman Mini, Pix the Cat). No platforms have been confirmed yet, but Microids has long been a firm supporter of Switch.
Original Arkanoid launched in arcade machines in 1986 and is part of the block breaking genre popularized by Atari’s Breakthrough… It was ported to various home systems at the time, and in the sequel Arkanoid: Revenge Beforearrived in 1987, while the SNES sequel Arkanoid: Do It Again and arcade recording Arkanoid returns both hit the market 10 years later, in 97. After another 10 years Arkanoid DS was published in 2007.
Pastagames founder and owner Fabien Delpiano said the following:
For me it was in the French city of Nice, Boulevard Jean Médsant, 54, in a dark gallery called “Automatic”. It was full of neon colors and very different people, from bikers to schoolchildren. The arcade machine with its metal ball bearing is simply breathtaking when I was just a typical fifteen year old teenager trying to get along in my youth. We immediately fell in love with each other and our relationship lasted for several years. We all have our own story with Arkanoid. How good it is to get back together after all these years.
Masakazu Suzuki, Director and CEO of Taito, added:
We are thrilled that Microids, the company we trust, will release a modern version of the hit game that Taito released 35 years ago. We are confident that both old fans and new players will be very happy with the game.
