The Best and Worst of Every Halo Game

Best: They did it, they actually got stuck on landing. It seems strange that in this era of vast canonical and cinematic universes, the trilogy can actually… end. But Halo 3 it actually succeeded by pairing a satisfying solution with just enough tragedy to give it an effect. Then, of course, there’s the proper send-off for the Master Chief, left out in space on a shattered interstellar cruiser with only Cortana, his longtime AI companion, to company. Who can forget her eternal code: “Wake me up when you need me.”

Worst: Nothing. To be honest, I don’t know if I have anything here – or at least anything that I would call the “worst” part of the book. Halo 3 will be insincere, at best. While it is no doubt outdated, some of its design choices seem dated when compared to today’s performance. Halo 3 was as flawless as a video game can be. There’s a reason some longtime fans had dust, yes, dust in their eyes when Halo 3 servers closed permanently earlier this year.
