It feels like an awful long time has passed since we got our last traditional Mario Kart experience.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe hit the Switch back in 2017, which in itself was a 2014 re-release of the game for Wii U, and with the mobile version of Mario Kart Tour and the experimental title for Nintendo Switch Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit filling that gap, some fans are starting to wonder when the next “main” game will arrive. According to one trusted gaming industry analyst, the next entry may appear faster than you think.
Dr. Serkan Toto of Kantan Games has shared his gaming predictions for 2022 with GamesIndustry.biz, noting that he believes there will likely be fewer delays in the industry this year and that crypto games could get even bigger. Among those predictions, however, Toto discusses what he calls “Mario Kart 9,” the true successor to Mario Kart 8, which he says is “in active development.”
“I know Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo may be teasing it this year.”
So a new Mario Kart game? With a whole new twist? Could you show it this year? Yes please.
Toto also believes that another mobile version of the classic Nintendo IP could appear in 2022:
“On mobile, Nintendo has been quiet since the launch of the Mario Kart Tour in 2019, but I think we will see a fixed IP address on smart devices again in 2022.”
The same analyst forecast summary, it has been predicted that a next-generation successor to the Switch could arrive “in late 2024.”
