Stunning new Octopath Traveler II footage showcases ‘HD-2D evolution’

Although before the release of Octopath Traveler II Switch on February 24, 2023that didn’t stop the Square Enix team from sharing a good dose of content – after all, the game is supposedly 90% complete.

The latest of these updates, posted by the game’s official Japanese Twitter account (@OCTOPATH_PR) gives us a closer look at Solistia, showing off some bosses at the end of the game’s chapter and some tricky camera moves.

It looks like HD-2D rendering has really taken off by leaps and bounds lately – and that’s given the very strong position it started from. The environments in the above video look amazing, and combined with the new dynamic camera work, it’s clear that Square Enix is ​​really leading the stylistic movement here.

The title of the tweet (translated via Twitter) describes the game as “an evolution of HD-2D” and these new graphics represent “the HD-2D series version 2.0”. What’s clear is that the team is impressed with how the game looks at the moment, and hey, can they be blamed?
