Sonic The Hedgehog 2 outpaces original film at global box office

Sega Corporation today announced Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has now topped the worldwide box office of $331.64 million, surpassing the $319.71 million sales record set by the original film in 2020.
This follows from the fact that the film is experiencing the biggest success of any video game film ever, with $72.1 million in the US in its first three days. The original made $58.01 million in the same time period. The film’s US box office receipts reached $162.74 million, surpassing the previous film’s $148.97 million.
Outside of that spot, the second Sonic movie debuted in 47 different markets and peaked at #1. It hasn’t been done yet – the film is due for release in Japan this August. Have you already been to the cinema to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2? Leave a comment below.
