Akitoshi Kawazu sounds like a busy guy. V tweet fans today he thanked them for their support SaGa in 2021 and said he would continue to work to support them in 2022. what exactly did he mean? Well…
According to Kawazu, he is moving forward with the remaster, remake and new entry in SaGa row. “I try very hard to bring good news to everyone,” added Kawazu. Hopefully this means that announcements will be made next year.
Kawazu, who co-authored the first last fantasy game originally released the first SaGa game in 1989 with Final Fantasy Legendknown in Japan as Makai Carcasses SaGa… Since then, the series has had over 15 works.
For the uninitiated, the SaGa series was called “Alt-JRPG” due to the games abandoning traditional JRPG agreements for non-standard design and complex mechanics.
Even when Kawazu moved to a more senior position at Square Enix, he still works with SaGa row. For example, Kawazu came up with a concept for the 2018s. Romantic Saga Re: Universebut wrote and developed SaGa: Scarlet Gracewho was the first released in Japan on the PS Vita before porting to a number of other platforms.
There are a number of theories on Twitter about what a remaster with the first one might be. Affair with SaGaoriginally released in 1992 seems to top the list while smart money is at Romance with SaGa 4 for a new name. Remake speculations include the 2002s Unlimited saga, but Saga frontier (above in the photo) might be an interesting choice… A updated version was released this spring, but a number of storylines were cut out during the game’s initial development.
Back in 2017 Kotaku asked Kawazu about the possibility of rework Saga frontier with content cut from the game. “Of course I would like to.” – Kawazu. replied“But I’m not sure if God will keep me alive until the day it becomes possible.”
Looking forward to what Kawazu has prepared. SaGa in 2022 and beyond!
