Rogue Legacy 2 Coming to Xbox April 28

Summary

  • We are announcing the official launch day for Rogue Legacy 2.
  • We look back to the origins and how it all began.

It’s crazy to think that after nearly four years of development Rogue Legacy 2 finally completed! This is the biggest game our little team has ever made, and knowing that people will soon be able to play it is unnerving and exciting. We put so much love and care into Rogue Legacy 2 how we could get together and we hope fans feel it when they finally get to play the game on April 28th.

If you are not familiar with the series, Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogy scam where every time you fall, your kids will avenge you. Your child may be a colorblind cook with a tendency to bounce projectiles at enemies with his trusty frying pan. Or maybe they’re katana-wielding ronin that sparkle because they’re also vampires. Or maybe they’re vegans who die if they eat meat (our game tries to be 100% scientifically accurate).

It’s also a hard game that doesn’t take a beating. Your hero will die, and each time they die, the kingdom changes its plan for the next playthrough. But don’t worry, because each playthrough earns you some extra progress, either by unlocking permanent power-ups on your journey, or by spending your hard-earned gold. Expand your estate with amazing additions to give your heirs stronger abilities, unlock special features with the souls of the fallen, or simply relax on the docks and listen to the stories of those you meet along the way.

This is a huge world in which you are constantly growing, learning and discovering something new with each passage.

Truly, RL2began long before the project was announced. Shortly after the development of the original was completed (over eight years ago), we had ideas for a sequel. It wasn’t going to happen right away, but we knew it would eventually happen. Ideas such as more diverse biomes, a comprehensive New Game Plus system that really expands replay value, and characters with their own unique weapons and abilities have been around for a long time. We planned to go even to 2.5D art style. Despite the tedious production of the first installment, there was still a lot we wanted to say and do with this franchise.

After a long break from Rogue Legacy, we dusted off those ideas and started talking about what else we want in a sequel. It was a unique challenge because one of the principles we agreed on was that Rogue Legacy 2 I had to stand my ground. This meant not only staying true to the original, but, paradoxically, being different at the same time. We couldn’t just get bigger and better, we had to be new and exciting. Things like Soul Shop, Burdens, Relics, Scar Challenges, and Curio Shoppe are all ideas born from this rule, and have been carefully crafted to complement the existing formula that made the original so memorable.

In the end, even we were surprised at how much more we wanted to add to Rogue Legacy Universe. It took almost twice as long as we originally planned, but it just makes us all the more proud of the final product. Looking back, Rogue Legacy 1 now it seems that this is one moment in time, while the sequel is a whole performance. There is so much to see, do and discover that we really hope it resonates with new and old gamers alike. We have done our best to make sure that Rogue Legacy 2 is the quintessence of experience. Now the question is, what the hell are we going to do with the third one?
