In just over a month, we’ll be able to dive into some brilliant new content in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the release of the first wave of the Booster Course Pass. Until the end of 2023, there will be six waves that will add 48 fields to the game at a price $24.99 / CAD 32.99 / £22.49 get them all; it will also be included in the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion Pack. Wave 1 is coming March 18 and will include the following:

Gold Cup Dash

The question we’ve seen is whether you need to own a Pass or have an NSO+ Expansion Pack to actually play the courses. Answer Noif you are willing to either take a chance on an online spin or play with a friend who does have access to a pass.

Below is Nintendo’s official information on the matter:

Courses from the first wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – The Booster Course Pass will be available to play locally or online starting March 18 in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns or has access to the Fast Course Pass as part of the Nintendo Switch . Online + expansion pack membership. Starting March 22, Wave 1 tracks will also appear randomly when playing Global or Regional Races with anyone online.

Although playing online in the Global or Regional from March 22 you will be able to see the tracks, this will be a game with great chances; each race gets a random group of 4 tracks and the final race is determined by popular vote. It won’t be the ideal way to see them all quickly.

However, if you have a friend or family member who has a pass, you just need to have them post a room in the Friends & Rivals section from any time after courses launch, in local or online multiplayer. Once there are at least two players in the lobby, the host can set the rules for the game, ranging from the speed category to the availability and difficulty of CPU racers and more. Most importantly, the host can directly select the tracks to be played, so you can quickly experience all eight for just two cups while racing with a partner.

This is a potentially useful workaround, for example if you want to try before you buy.

Are you planning on getting a Booster Course Pass, or maybe just playing courses with a friend? Let us know, as always, in the comments.
