We already heard from Jack Black that Bowser will have a “musical side” in Movie Super Mario Bros.and it seems like his character won’t be the only one singing the tune.
Speaking with Diversity Keegan-Michael Key recently mentioned how he was able to “improvise a song” as Toad in the movie Mario. Here’s what he had to say:
“I had to improvise a song in Super Mario Bros., it was an absolute blast. It was just fun, that’s all.”
“I worked on the voice with my partner and tried to find the voice in the character’s inner journey. And then with directors [Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic]we sprinkled something, we moved it.”
Speaking a little more about Toad’s voice, Key mentioned that he was “really pleased” with the end result:
“There was something in the timbre. I wanted higher and higher and higher. That’s where we’ve come to, and I’m very happy with where we’ve come.”
As for Bowser, Jack Black turned to his own “heavy metal roots” – in a previous interview he also mentioned how he “lit up a bit”:
“Well, you know, I brought in some of my heavy metal roots because — in a way — Bowser is kind of like a heavy metal rock star. You know, a big, strong, scary rock star. rock. I think you will be surprised to see that Bowser has a musical side. I think that after the film comes out, I will take it to Broadway, there may be a one-man show.
The new Mario movie will hit theaters next year on April 7th. What do you think of the musical pieces featured in this upcoming film? Comment below.
