Random: This ’00s-inspired Switch magazine ad makes us nostalgic

Remember gaming magazines? Remember how stunning they were? Yes, some of them are still in use today; in the UK we have similar edge, frame, retro gameras well as Change player to name just a few, but for those who grew up in the 80s, 90s and 00s, magazines like NGamer, CVGas well as Evil machines were absolute bee knees.
They had one thing in common – catchy video game ads. Often printed on one- or two-page spreads, they didn’t just showcase a bunch of key images and be done with it; no, they were creative and often happy. Some had a kind of quirky DIY element where duct tape was used to stick various images on top of each other to create a mockup of what a certain game might look like.
That’s how the artist Kemmo (@Kemmo_Ado) made a pretty brilliant Switch promotional mockup for Splatoon 3, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Metroid Dread. By choosing the rather simple but ingenious slogan “Who are you?”, the ad effectively combines key images from the respective games with real environments – so, for example, you have poor Samus lying in bed while one of the deadly EMMI robots hides in ambush below – a brilliant thing!

Pretty cool, right? It makes us feel warm and fluffy inside with nostalgia; What is this salty discharge from our eyes? Ah, we miss the days when gaming magazines were all the rage. One user even posted his own layout for Super Mario Odyssey inspired by Kemmo, which is great to see!
