Random: Saturday Night Live and Pedro Pascal present a gritty take on Mario Kart
HBO adaptation Last of us has been receiving rave reviews since its debut in January – and rightfully so – with critics and audiences alike praising the show for its faithful take on the franchise as well as its bold departures (hello, episode 3!).
This clearly got some people thinking about what else could potentially get “harsh” adaptation. Thanks to Saturday Night Live, we now have some idea of what Mario Kart it might look like if HBO got the IP. Spoiler: it’s pretty cool.
Starring the one and only Pedro Pascal (Last of us, Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian), the parody trailer shows the Mushroom Kingdom being ravaged by the fearsome Bowser. After being tasked to get Princess Peach to the Rainbow Road (for some reason), Mario explains that walking is not an option and therefore hops on his kart with Peach in tow. The two even stop at a haunted mansion to recruit Luigi – it’s crazy!
We love how ridiculous it all looks, and it certainly serves as a stark alternative to Mario IP compared to the upcoming game. Movie Super Mario Bros.! Frankly, we can’t choose between the two… Why not both? Yes, both are good.
