We are approaching the grand opening of Super Nintendo World Hollywood on February 17when the US takes part in the widely discussed Japanese attraction, will open its doors (pipes?) for the first time.
In the run-up to the big day, we saw a lot of pictures from those lucky enough to be on press tours and promotions. While the park looks as amazing as we expected – it’s almost an exact replica of the one in Osaka – there are some changes we’ll never be to our liking.
We are, of course, talking about Mario-style food. Now, for the most part, the Hollywood menu looks damn good and early reactions tend to be positive about both the options and the experience itself. However, there is one downvote that was noted on Twitter @AcunaMattataand this is not a pretty picture for dessert lovers.
As you can see from the above tweet, the Hollywood theme park has replaced Osaka’s layered peach cake, vaguely reminiscent of Super Mario 64’s ending “Thank You” cake, with something much more… red.
Yes, Peach’s promise about the cake she baked for Mario is a little disappointing if you were expecting the first picture and got the second. To be clear, the bright cupcake still looks goodmmm, red taste), but it’s a bit of a downvote, we have to agree.
Of course, Super Nintendo World Hollywood’s menu goes far beyond mere desserts, so that doesn’t mean the entire menu is disappointing compared to Japan. With a Mario Kart ride, interactive exhibits, and gift shop, we’d be lying if we didn’t say this new place still looks pretty amazing.
