Have you ever wondered what it would be like to squeeze the full power of the Game Boy Advance into a Tiger Electronics handheld gaming system from the 80s? Probably not, but one guy who’s always wanted to make his dreams come true was hardware modder and creator Chris Downing.
Downing admits that this is technically nothing more than a simple case modification – placing the internal components of the GBA inside a portable Tiger device along with a few hardware upgrades. While it was supposed to be a “pretty simple project,” some parts of it, such as 3D printing, actually turned into a nightmare.
You can see the entire project in the video above, but if you don’t have time to watch it, here’s a look at the final view of the device:
The final version of the system is actually slightly larger and comes with a custom printed and CNC cut screen protector, USB-C charging, and an IPS screen. And just like the GBA, it can play old Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
You can see more of Frankenstein Downing’s creations on his Youtube channel – Previously, he put entire Nintendo 64 devices in portable cases. What do you think of this Tiger Electronics x GBA hybrid? Leave your thoughts at the bottom.
