Random: Here’s GTA V being played on the Game Boy (yes, really)

In the past, we’ve seen the Game Boy do incredible things at the hands of creative fans – remember that time someone managed to take a picture of the moon with the Game Boy’s camera? – but we never thought we’d see one of them being used for a game Grand Theft Auto V. In fact, who are we kidding, GTA V is on so many platforms that it had to happen sometime.

In any case, this seemingly impossible turn of events was made possible thanks to the hard work of Sebastian Staaks, who managed to create Game Boy WiFi Cartridge. The device originally allowed Sebastian to use a non-original, unmodified Game Boy to view and send text messages and access a custom version of Wikipedia, but this has since changed significantly.

Now Staacks has managed to get the cartridge to stream video and even play games over Wi-Fi while using the Game Boy’s buttons to enter commands. Thanks to this, and also thanks to a lot of technical know-how that goes beyond our heads (find out all about how it works here), Sebastian was able to stream GTA V to the console screen and can send data from the Game Boy to control the action. You can see it for yourself in the video above.

Basically, the idea isn’t too different from today’s cloud gaming, where the game is streamed to a console like the Nintendo Switch and receives input from your controller over the internet. Of course, the Game Boy’s screen is probably not the best. the most beautiful way to play GTA V, but still very impressive.
