Random: GlaDOS actress really wants Valve to make Portal 3
One of the biggest surprises of the year was undoubtedly the launch Portal as well as Portal 2 via Portal: Companion Collection on Switch. Widely regarded as two of the greatest video games of all time, the ports work like butter on the Nintendo hybrid console, no doubt introducing many new players to the world of Aperture Science along with characters like Whitley and the venerable GlaDOS.
One of the common jokes with Valve is that the publisher doesn’t seem to be able to create a third entry for their popular IP. franchises like left 4 Dead, Portalas well as Half life all more or less come to an end with their respective sophomore titles (although you might object that Half-life of Alyx technically the third main entry in the Half-Life series), but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking and asking for more of this Valve goodness.
One person who has recently expressed a desire for a new installment of the Portal franchise is none other than Ellen McLain, the famous actress who voices Portal’s main antagonist, GlaDOS. In conversation with YouTuber KIWI TALKZshe responded to a comment regarding fan inquiries about Portal 3 and GlaDOS in particular:
“Well, write! Write to Valve! You have received my blessing. Say, “Ellen wants to make Portal 3!”
It was said in a rather jocular way, but the intention is certainly there. She goes on to explain that it’s the actor’s job to make sure the character doesn’t feel dated after a few renderings, stating that Valve has always provided excellent guidance on how GlaDOS should look in games. It is implied that Ellen is more than willing to take on the role of GlaDOS again and isn’t particularly worried about the character becoming obsolete.
In a previous KIWI TALKZ interviewPortal and Portal 2 writer Eric Wolpaw expressed similar interest in a new Portal title, stating that he “would be working on another Portal in a second, but I can’t do it myself.”
