The development team behind the GameCube and the Wii Dolphin emulator shared some unexpected news – announcing that Dolphin is “coming soon” to Valve’s Steam service in the second quarter of 2023. You can even wishlist the free download right now.

When Dolphin launches as an Early Access game on the Steam store, the development team will share an article detailing the “process and features” of this particular release. Here’s what the developers had to say about the initial announcement:

“We are excited to finally tell the world about our experiment. This is the result of many months of work, and we look forward to having it in the hands of users soon!”

This comes from the fact that the same team got a Steam Deck before release last year and tried out Dolphin on the device with some exclusive games.

Here is a bit about this version via Steam. Also noted as “this app does not come with gamesand requires you to “own an original copy of any game you wish to use with Dolphin”. This emulator will include support for 4K displays, modern controllers, multiplayer, is completely open source, and is again free to download.

“The Dolphin emulator is your one-way ticket to nostalgia if you want to relive the classics from big N consoles in cube form and with motion control. Step back into the age of gaming before microtransactions and experience a diverse library of thousands of games released for these consoles over 15 years. Dolphin Emulator lets you bring these classic games back to the modern age with support for 4K displays, modern controllers, and more. All of this, completely open source. and free to download.
