Random: A Reddit User Created the Best 3DS Emulator Using Steam Deck

Steam Deck is widely known for its amazing emulation capabilities, and just recently users managed to enable gyroscope control for Wii U emulation. This isn’t all that surprising considering that Steam Deck is actually a portable PC, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

Now one Reddit user has taken it to the next level by creating what is essentially a 3DS on steroids. In a video posted to the Steam Deck subreddit, the user you/rising_tony shows how they slightly modified the Steam Deck by cutting out an extra screen to provide a completely authentic 3DS emulation.

As you can see in the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D video demo, the emulation allows for touch screen support on the bottom screen, as well as full gyroscope support when you want to look around or aim your catapult. However, perhaps most impressively, adding a second screen doesn’t seem to Horrible; it looks pretty nice, actually! We would definitely like to try this.

Of course, the only thing missing is the 3D effect itself, and we’re willing to bet that would be next to impossible for a fan; but we are more than willing to be proven wrong! Of course, Nintendo itself has dropped support for 3D effects in some of its later games, so we don’t think this will be a big problem for people who want to emulate 3DS games on their Steam Deck.

What do you think of this 3DS/Steam Deck hybrid? Have you managed to accomplish any similar emulation feats that you would like to share? Tell us in the comments below!
