Now that …

Something was happening …

To mark the 21 years since the expulsion of Child A and Amnestics from a converted barn in the Oxfordshire countryside into an unsuspecting world, we built … something.
We’re not sure what it is.

For starters, when we first thought about it, we set out to build a physical exhibition / installation in central London.

It was supposed to be a huge red structure, made by welding cargo containers, built as if a brutalist spaceship had crashed into the classic architecture of the Victoria and Albert Museum in Kensington.

This striking steel carapace will be inserted into the urban fabric of London, like an ice pick in Trotsky. Speaking out into the gray English sky. And then, being built from shipping containers, we could ship it all over the world … New York, Tokyo, Paris …

But then we could not have placed it in Victoria & Albert if parts of the museum building had not collapsed.
Therefore, we changed the location – now everything will look as if it crashed into the direction of the Royal Albert Hall.
But Westminster’s council didn’t like the idea a little.
And then Covid made final destruction.

Our dream has died.
Until we realized …
It would be better if it didn’t actually exist.
Because then it didn’t have to comply with the usual rules of the exhibition. Or reality.
Much better.


We worked with Nigel Godrich on this for about two years, using locks, self-isolation and lots of very long, intermittent Zoom calls.
We worked with Sean Evans, the genius video / computer artist who directed it all with awe-inspiring dedication and energy, theatrical set designer Christina Jones, and the game developers. [namethemachine] and arbitrarily good productions.
And finally, convince Epic Games to help us bring this to the world.

Visually, we had one guiding principle.

Because … this has already been a lot.

It seems really.

It seems like a crazy amount … You’ll see.

Everything that we have built is, to one degree or another, based on what we did 20 years ago.

And we had all the multitrack recordings from the albums, so we were able to recreate the sound from the original elements in a new controlled space that wasn’t just stereo.
It was a lot of fun.

Working on something as bizarre as this, during long Zoom conversations with a large team of technicians around the world, was one of the strangest experiences we’ve ever had.
Unreal in every sense of the word, especially in months of almost complete isolation of people.
In those days of emptiness …

What we did … is kind of reengineering the mutant Kid A and Amnesiac.
But now that’s enough. Enough!!
