Power levels, workshops, armor set bonuses and more – PlayStation.Blog

God of War Ragnarok is almost here! Tomorrow, November 9, you will finally be able to return to the Nine Realms along with Kratos and Atreus, who are preparing for the coming war.

To get you up and running right away, we’ve compiled a list of ten of our top tips to help you develop your hero! God of War Ragnarok has a ton of new features and updates for many of those returning from God of War (2018), so be sure to check them out below!

All equipment is legendary

In God of War Ragnarok, we have abandoned our old equipment rarity system.

Previously, in God of War (2018), most armor and weapon accessories could only be upgraded a handful of times, so they were inevitably left behind when you increased your power level.

In this game, any equipment with a power level can be upgraded to level 9! This opens up a world of possibilities and combinations, allowing for much more variety in playstyles at every power level.

Transmog unlocks at gear level 9.

Speaking of max power level, there’s a surprise waiting for people diligent enough to upgrade their equipment to level 9!

The ability to “transmogrify” gear has been one of the most requested features, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll have it in God of War Ragnarok!

Once your gear reaches level 9, you will be able to apply whatever appearance is currently in your inventory. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different details because you like how something looks. Find your dream perk and combine it with your desired look once you reach level 9!

This feature applies to Kratos’ primary weapons and armor.

Don’t be afraid to go out of your way

The Player Investment team at Santa Monica Studios is responsible for both player progression content and research materials, so we made sure to place the best equipment in our optional areas to reward those of you who spend extra time on the study!

Don’t be afraid to say yes when you hear a call to explore or feel like things are getting too complicated. Completing quests and exploring the Nine Realms is a sure way to stay one step ahead.

If you’re the type of player who wants to play through the main story before returning to additional quests and exploration, don’t worry! Quests never expire and research content will always be waiting for you.

Auto equipment

If min/max stats aren’t really your game, we’ll make it easy for you with the Auto-Equip feature.

Just press L3 on the Weapon or Armor tabs and then select the option you want to prioritize. Auto-equip will automatically equip items with the highest power level, and favor the selected stats if you have multiple items of the same level.

Old resources will be sold in the Store

Note to all the misers – old crafting resources can eventually be bought from the shop.

Most of your equipment will eventually start looking for an alternative resource to upgrade on your way to level 9. Around the time you start finding these new resources, the old ones will appear in the SPECIAL ITEMS tab in the RESOURCES section of any shop.

No need to hoard this precious wrought iron if your main armor reaches the soft limit. Use this as an opportunity to level up and try new things. You might just love it!

Pay special attention to the skill work in the skill tree.

Once you unlock a new skill, be sure to use it!

If you look closely at the information tab, for many Skills you will see a counter that tracks your use of that Skill.

Keep grinding to level it up to gold and you’ll unlock a skill mod slot that allows you to apply some tweaks to your favorites. Add enough Skill Mod Tokens to truly become a force to be reckoned with!

XP is not just about skills

Those who played God of War (2018) may remember that you could spend XP to upgrade various runic attacks.

This feature returns in God of War Ragnarok but also expands with Spartan Rage and Relics.

Be sure to head over to the WEAPONS tab and explore individual Runic Attacks, Spartan Fury Modes, and Relics to upgrade your favorites. Each of them has two additional levels to unlock!

Must visit Niflheim

Hey, the Ravens of Odin are back!

In God of War Ragnarok, we’ve taken serious steps to make hunting down the Allfather’s spies worth the effort, so be sure to visit the Raventree in Niflheim as soon as you can.

You can see the familiar feathers of the fifty-one crows that tried to elude Kratos in God of War (2018) on the branches to mark the spot. Under the Raven Tree, you can claim your rewards for finding new ravens in God of War Ragnarok through a set of chests. Upon reaching certain thresholds, the chest will be unlocked – remember to check back here periodically to see what you’ve earned!

Who knows, maybe something will happen when you find all forty-eight in God of War Ragnarok!

Also don’t forget to visit the training arena in the same location if you need to brush up on your combos!

Amulet of Yggdrasil: Enchantments and Attunement Bonuses

You will no longer enchant individual pieces of equipment. Instead, you must find the Amulet of Yggdrasil to insert the Enchantment into God of War Ragnarok.

To increase the number of available slots, you will need to find the Jewels of Yggdrasil. Some of them you will get by playing the main story, and the rest you will find by exploring different areas of the worlds.

Many enchantments have an innate area setting. You’ll know who they are as they have the realm they’re attuned to in their name, like enchantments. Fortitude of Midgard has a setting for the world, you guessed it, Midgard. If you select three or more from the same set of worlds, you will unlock perks that increase with your stats.

All world enchantments provide a stat boost, even if you don’t equip the full set.

Realm enchantments are not necessarily in the world they are set in, so keep an eye out for them!

Armor set bonuses

Most arm and belt pieces have perks that increase strength if you equip both pieces from the appropriate set. Wear your wrist and waist from the same set for a more powerful bonus, or mix and match pieces from different sets for more variety.

The choice is yours!
