Pokémon Scarlet and Violet surpassed 20 million units sold in just six weeks
Nintendo’s nine-month earnings report is finally here, so now we can get an idea of just how successful some of the latest Switch games have been.
This time, we were most concerned about the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. We knew it was going to be a big hit from that mass launch week, but the question was how big? Well the answer fucking huge how it goes. The financial report showed that the games were sold in huge quantities. 20.61 million units!
Keep in mind that the title was released on November 18 last year and the report only includes data up to December 31. Yes, that means the 20 million figure was reached in just six weeks – insane!
This success in such a short time also did not go unnoticed. The financial report described Scarlet and Violet as “the fastest launch of any game on Nintendo’s dedicated video game platform”. According to Nintendo’s best-selling game list, the recent Pokémon game is now ranked seventh in the rankings, just one spot behind Super Mario Odyssey and two spots behind the series’ main predecessor, Pokémon Sword and Shield.
In terms of the Pokémon franchise alone, Scarlet and Violet is currently the fourth best-selling game in the series. In accordance with @JoeMerrick from Silver.noThe 20.61 million units leave recent additions to the franchise behind only Pokémon Gold And Silver (23.7 million), Pokémon Sword and Shield (25.3 million) and OG Pokémon Red, Green and Blue (31.3 million).
It will be interesting to see if gaming’s success continues into 2023. Perhaps future updates and patches will bring even more people into the games, and who knows how they will be able to rise from then on…
