Pokémon cards targeted in a series of robberies at a trading card store in Tokyo

A number of burglaries have been reported at trading card shops in Tokyo, Japan as a result of the rise in popularity and value of Pokémon cards. Since last summer Japan Times reports that the damage from these thefts is estimated at about tens of millions of yen.

According to a source in the investigation, there were five unprecedented cases where the main target was the exchange of cards. Pokémon Trading Card Game usually involved. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department reported one specific case in which 60 cards worth a staggering 8.5 million yen were stolen from a store in Machida, a city located in western Tokyo.
