A slightly shocking announcement earlier this week was Playtonic, a British developer made up of former Rare veterans known for games like Yuka-Leili – it turned out that Tencent acquired a minority stake in the company.

In case you’re wondering what’s next, it was confirmed in an interview with friends at that one of the next games on the way will be a sequel to the original 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, which has arrived on the Nintendo Switch. in 2017.

“The significant investment will allow the studio to more than double its staff, expand to three development teams, and create more games, one of which will be a sequel to 2017’s 3D platform game: Yooka-Laylee.”

When the first game was released, it was considered a worthy sequel to the Rare Banjo-Kazooie games from the Nintendo 64 generation. The title was followed by a 2D spin-off – Yuka-Leili and the Impossible Lair – inspired by titles such as Donkey Kong Country
