PlayStation Stars launches today in Asia, with additional markets coming soon – PlayStation.Blog

What an exciting moment for PlayStation! Today was the first regional launch of our new loyalty program, PlayStation Stars. I’m excited to introduce this new initiative to our PlayStation community, first launched in Asia, that celebrates our players’ accomplishments with fun and exciting campaigns and the opportunity to earn rewards like points and digital collectibles.

With this launch, we are kicking off the global rollout of PlayStation Stars, and this is just the beginning. We will continue to evolve the app with new features, rewards, benefits, and ways to enjoy what you love about PlayStation.

Let’s take a look at some of the key details of the program.

When does PlayStation Stars launch?

Below are the following launch dates for PlayStation Stars:

  • Asia including Japan: September 29 (the local time)
  • North and South America: October 5 (the local time)
  • Europe, Australia and New Zealand: October 13 (the local time)

What do I need to join PlayStation Stars? Is a PlayStation Plus membership required?

Joining PlayStation Stars is free. You will only need to have an adult account for PlayStation Network and accept the program’s Terms of Service. While a PlayStation Plus subscription gives you certain benefits, a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to join PlayStation Stars.

How can I access PlayStation Stars?

All the features of PlayStation Stars are available through the PlayStation app on iOS and Android. You can also join PlayStation Stars via playstation.com.

We have plans to expand to console devices in the future.

How does the program work?

With PlayStation Stars, you earn rewards by completing various campaigns and quests. Our “Register Monthly” campaign simply requires you to play any game in order to receive the reward. Other campaigns will challenge you to earn specific trophies or even be one of the first players to earn a blockbuster platinum title in your country/region. One of our first campaigns is called “Hit Play/1994”, in which members who correctly launch games that match song-based clues receive a special collectible.

Campaigns are updated regularly, so check out the PlayStation app to see new campaigns.

What rewards can I receive?

There are two types of rewards – loyalty points and digital collectibles. Points can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN wallet funds, exclusive digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products. As an added benefit, PlayStation Plus subscribers enrolled in PlayStation Stars automatically earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store.*

Beautifully designed digital collectibles are digital representations of things PlayStation fans love, including action figures of beloved and iconic characters from gaming and other forms of entertainment, and cherished devices that reflect Sony’s history of innovation. There will be new collectibles to earn regularly, ultra-rare collectibles to aim for, or something amazing to collect just for fun.

Digital collectibles that you earn or purchase can be placed on display in the PlayStation app. You can also set up a storefront for others to view if you like.

At launch, by simply joining, all participants will receive a Star Gazer telescope. We’ll have Punto’s gondolier from Ape Escape 2, PocketStation, Toro and Kuro and more as some of the first digital collectibles members can earn or purchase.

Are digital collectibles one of a kind? Can I sell or trade my digital collectibles?

These digital collectibles are made specifically for our loyalty program and while some of them may be rare, they are not one of a kind and do not use blockchain technology. They cannot be resold or exchanged. Digital collectibles can only be earned or purchased through PlayStation Stars.

How can I find out how rare a digital collectible is?

The rarity of a digital collectible can be found on the campaign details screen and on the collectible details page.

How to track and use points?

Your points balance can be found in the PlayStation app under Player Profile / PlayStation Stars Points History. Points can be used to redeem items in your rewards catalog, which may include digital collectibles, games, or PSN digital wallet funds.

To redeem your points, go to PlayStation App > Player Profile > Playstation Stars > Rewards Catalog.

What benefits will I receive if I become a PlayStation Plus subscriber if I join PlayStation Stars?

Playing PlayStation Stars does not require a PlayStation Plus membership. However, if you are a PlayStation Plus member and join PlayStation Stars, you can earn points for your PlayStation Store purchases, including every subscription payment for your PlayStation Plus membership. Please note that topping up your PSN Wallet will not earn PlayStation Stars.

What are status levels?

PlayStation Stars will have four status levels that reflect the milestones you have reached. They are based on the number of Unusual Trophies earned through gameplay as well as full game purchases from the PlayStation Store. The higher your level, the more privileges and benefits you can get.

How long can I stay at my status level?

Once you reach a status level, you will stay there for the rest of the calendar year plus an additional 13 months. For example, if you received Level 2 status in October, your Level 2 status will remain valid for that calendar year and will be valid for the next 13 months from January 1 of the following year to January 31 of the next year.
