Outriders developers didn’t receive royalties from Square Enix last year

According to a recent report from developer studio People Can Fly, online loot shooter Outriders did not receive any profit by the end of 2021.

As originally reported Twicktown, report stated that publisher Square Enix had not paid any royalties to the studio as a result of insufficient sales. Despite the dire financial situation, PCF intends to continue post-launch DLC development as originally agreed with the publisher.

From the document: “The Group received no royalties from the publisher for the period up to December 31, 2021, meaning that at the reporting date, the net proceeds from the sale of Outriders were insufficient to recover costs and expenses incurred by the publisher to develop, distribute and promote the title.” It also stated that there would be no “guarantee” that the game’s sales would be sufficient to earn future royalties.
