Nvidia Shield closes downloads of games for Nintendo Wii in China

In 2017, rumors became reality when it was confirmed that Nintendo would release select Wii ports with 1080p HD resolution and 60 FPS on an Nvidia Shield in mainland China.

It started with the release Super Mario Galaxy and were accompanied by other names such as Donkey Kong Country Returns, The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Knock out !! and Mario Kart Wii

Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad – the same source who originally shared this information – has now revealed that downloads for these games are currently being closed. While the games are “still available” after purchase, it is unclear how long server authentication will last.

This was all part of the “Tegra deal” between Nintendo and Nvidia, which was followed by the Japanese video game giant officially launching a Tegra-based switch in China in 2019 with the assistance of Tencent.

As of December last year, the Nintendo Hybrid System had sold over 1.3 million units in China – nearly double the combined sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the same period. Daniel Ahmad also mentioned Switch’s success following up on the original post:
