Nintendo first added “Missions” and “Rewards” to its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service in April 2022.

These items can be accessed by navigating to the NSO icon on the Switch home screen and then selecting the Missions & Rewards section. Here you’ll find a list of available missions that are related (as Nintendo says) to “things you’re probably already doing with your Nintendo Switch Online membership, like playing online or trying out a library of classic games.”

So what do you get for participating in these missions? Platinum points, that’s what. They can be exchanged for items in the My Nintendo Store as usual, as well as “new member-exclusive badge items that you can collect and combine to create a new user badge.”

Nintendo Switch Online Missions & Rewards: How to Earn Platinum Points

It’s simple. As explained above, you simply go to the Missions & Rewards section of the NSO app on the Switch console and view the currently available missions. Complete them and you’ll earn Platinum Points.

Keep in mind that the time between the completion of a mission and the display of points on your account can sometimes be quite long, especially during peak hours. If your scores don’t show up right away, check back later.

Remember that you also have a chance to earn Platinum Points through your My Nintendo account.

What are icon elements, you ask? These are the frames, symbols, and backgrounds you can use to customize your user icon on your Switch console. It’s an icon that people also see when you’re online, so there’s a motivation to make it as unique as possible.

Once you have accumulated enough Platinum Points, simply select the desired badge element and purchase it. Please note that you must be logged into the NSO online application to change the elements of the “award” badge. You cannot customize reward items in the standard Switch user interface.
