While Nintendo is forecasting a drop in profits and sales for the current fiscal year, its hardware and software are still being sold like there’s no tomorrow. As of March 31, 2022, Switch has sold over 107 million units and the software has surpassed 822 million units.
So it’s no surprise that Nintendo also recently ranked among the “top 10” video game companies by gaming revenue for 2021. In a new report published by Newzoo (via GamesBeat), the graph shows how Nintendo made about $8.1 billion, up 1.9% year-over-year. This puts it in 8th place right behind Activision Blizzard.
Chinese video game giant Tencent topped the list with over $32 billion, while Sony came in second with $18.2 billion. Companies such as EA, Activision Blizzard and Microsoft have also shown much higher growth compared to previous years. Collectively, the top 10 companies earned a total of $126 billion in 2021.
