If you are one of the few people who always uses it Netflix app on your Wii U or 3DS, so we have some bad news – the service is now totally discontinued.
The Netflix app for both platforms was hunted from the Wii U and 3DS eShops of December last year, but if you had the app installed before this date, it still works as normal. However, as of June 30, 2021, the service has been completely disconnected on both consoles.
The next message was published on Nintendo’s customer service portal:
The Netflix app was released by Nintendo eShop on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family systems on December 31, 2020 and discontinued on June 30, 2021. Thank you for your support of these apps on the years.
Despite the removal, no Netflix app has been announced for Switch, despite reports coming up. In 2017 there have been rumors that the app was ready but needed Nintendo’s approval, while in 2018, Reggie said the conversations between Nintendo and the streaming giant were “in progress”.
While many modern TVs come with built-in Netflix support and there is a Netflix app available for smartphones and tablets (both iOS and Android), the ability to watch movies and TV shows on Switch will no doubt be a welcome bonus for many Nintendo fans.
Were you still using the Netflix app on Wii U or 3DS? Interested in getting the app on Switch? Let me know with a comment.
