An MMO based on the Marvel Universe is in development at DC Universe Online by Dimensional Ink Studios, according to an investor presentation.
The presentation was posted by parent company Enad Global 7 and spotted by Streamer @mmmmmmmmiller.
The news follows a concept art leaked in 2019 that seemed to showcase the character designs for Daybreak’s earlier attempt at creating a Marvel MMO.
The presentation slide notes that “Unannounced MMORPG” is to be “a Marvel IP-based multiplayer online game” and is led by Jack Emmert, who formally led City of Heroes and is currently led by Team DC Universe Online.
This is the latest development by Marvel in the video game market.
Following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 5, Marvel Games released Marvel’s The Avengers with Crystal Dynamics, and earlier, in 2021, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently in development in Insomniac, as is Marvel’s Wolverine.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns, another new game being developed by XCOM developer Firaxis Games, was recently pushed back from March 2022 to the second half of the year.
In a statement posted on social media, creative director Jake Solomon said the development team needs more time to improve the quality of the game.
“We know a lot of fans were looking forward to playing this game next spring, and that decision was not easy,” he said.
“We decided to speed up the launch because we need more time to make this the best game possible. We believe in our creative vision for Marvel’s Midnight Suns and want to pay tribute to creating an unforgettable adventure. ”
