As Capcom Scraps Development Street Fighter V, he made serious hints that the next game in this series will be presented in 2022. In its latest update for the fifth game, Capcom concludes with a message: “We’ll be back with more news on the future of Street Fighter.”

Street Fighter V launched in 2016 and has remained an exclusive PlayStation console ever since, although it was also released in slot machines and on PC. Capcom is supporting the game with regular seasonal updates and DLC characters, with the latest character, Luke, arriving on November 29th.

However, throughout all of this, it is believed that Capcom has been hard at work on the sixth main entry to the long-standing franchise, which would have made a 2022 opening even more likely.

“For us, Street Fighter V was a project of highs and lows,” says director Takayuki Nakayama. “But thanks to our fans, we were able to accomplish what we were aiming for. We, the development team, will use this experience as a springboard to move on to the next project. “

“We look forward to bringing you more information next year,” adds producer Shuhei Matsumoto.

Of course, the real question is whether the game will arrive on Microsoft and Nintendo consoles, or will it be PlayStation exclusive, like Street Fighter V. Capcom previously stated that it made the fifth game PS4 exclusive because Sony and Capcom “see the potential equally growth in fighting games. “

However, Street Fighter has a long and illustrious history on Nintendo systems. SNES port Street Fighter II was possibly the game that made the series a domestic hit, and most recently Capcom backed Switch with titles such as Ultra Street Fighter II and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection… Even Street Fighter IV appeared on the Nintendo system thanks to the 3DS port.

It is likely that Capcom will want the next Street Fighter title to be a next-gen showcase, which could eliminate the Switch version.
