Battlefield 2042 ate a lot of crap at startupand rightly so, because for a game that claims to be a premium shooter at a premium price, it clearly turned out to be half-finished.

However, most people just said that the game was “bad”, which I always claimed was not entirely true, because a lot of what was in there was actually good, it was just released in a sparse and unfinished state . With some work – the kind of work DICE could afford an extra year and without having to release an unfinished game in the midst of a pandemic to satisfy EA executives and investors – I definitely hoped the game could get released. the day is better than good. Very good.

Now that the game has two major seasonal updates, I don’t think there’s more to come, but you can definitely see “Good” on the horizon. The game’s major additions such as new maps, weapons, and specialists certainly helped flesh out the experience, but the seemingly endless quality of life improvements made to every other corner of the game, from menus to icons, do just as much work.

So much of the game’s early criticism focused on how crude the game was, how it seemed to lack a lot of what made previous games better. Things like a scoreboard and lifetime statistics. Materials that are currently in the game. It also felt a bit empty and blurry, like some cards held together by a handful of broken menu screens. This has been fixed too. Battlefield 2042 eventually more like a cohesive, functional video game, instead of a series of cards held together with tape.

Everything feels more rounded, more familiar in the world DICE has created for this iteration in the series. After a few tweaks, Specialists now look as serious as the climate-damaged maps they’re fighting for.and maps begin to acquire sufficient volume and coherence to concretize the world itself also.

Basically, there’s enough polish and content here that you got. this is in October 2021, instead of what was actually thrown out the door, you might just think, okay, this is new Battleground game, let’s check. I know it’s a low bar to meet the basic standards of functionality for a AAA game release – it’s not something we should actively pursue. celebration– but the launch in 2042 was shortso any progress is progress.

It’s actually coming together so well, albeit slowly, that I think when we have 1-2 more new maps, maybe the same number of specialists, a few more weapons (sniper rifles have been pretty much ignored since launch) and the launch map finalization process is complete (DICE returns and modifies many have been removed, more terrain and detail added), I think Okay is definitely within the reach of this game.

Of course, we didn’t just magically arrive at this moment, because most of the game’s updates came in the first two seasons. I already covered Season 01, it was surprisingly fun, and season 02 came out last week. Luckily(?) I didn’t have a Covid job last week and got a chance to play hell out of it, and I was again impressed that everything about it is so much more interesting and enjoyable than what was available at launch.

Positioned somewhere between the LATV4 and the Wildcat in terms of speed, protection, and firepower, the new armored vehicle was a real challenge to drive, and thanks to its passenger capacity and ability to reset spawn points, it has already become a favorite of scouts. Crawford, the new Specialist, has a mobile minigun turret that is as silly and funny as it sounds. The best part of Season 02, though, is the new map, which didn’t sit well with me at first glance, but is actually just three long “lanes” (a desert for vehicles, a ship’s interior for close-in infantry carnage, and a sniper’s paradise among the palm trees), offering three completely different styles of play that are only a few minutes away.

So yes both Battlefield 2042 The seasons were great, they breathed life into the game that many thought made it into Dead On Arrival. However, remember: AAA games, especially persistent online games like this one, are usually too big to fail, for better or well as 2042 slow improvement after such a disastrous release is the last an example of this.
