Konami Surprise announces Suikoden 1 and 2 remasters for 2023
Long silence for Suikoden games has been puzzling us, you, everyone, for over a decade now. But Konami is moving mysteriously, and last night at the Tokyo Game Show, the company knocked everyone off their chair by unexpectedly announcing remasters of the first two games coming out next year.
It’s been ten years since the last time Suikoden game and it was Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Tokion PSP, Japanese only. A fan translation into English appeared last year.but for obvious reasons, people assumed that the series had been abandoned.
This was further confirmed crowdfunding success Eiyuden Chronicles: One Hundred Heroesspiritual successor Suikoden series created by the original developers. By June last year, the company had raised a mind-boggling $4.5 million. and already looks very impressive.
This certainly should have been a motivating factor for Konami, who may have finally realized they were sitting in an abandoned gold mine. However, they continued to chat and ignored the endless screams. Until now.
Although these remakes are clearly not being worked on by designers and writers like Yoshitaka Murayama, who are working on Eiyuden Chronicle, they brought back original character artist Junko Cavano. Which is interesting as it is listed as working on Eiyuden Chronicle too much.
IGN got my hands on some in-game footage from the remakes where you can see improved sprites, new audio, an updated UI and even a rewritten English translation – something that was sorely lacking in the original 90s releases. It’s a big deal Suikoden fans!

At least one former Konami employee was shocked by the announcement. Yuichi tweeted, “While I was still working for Konami at E3 2015, I was told to my face that there would never be another Suikoden game because it just doesn’t sell in the States and Europe.”
He added: “For those who do not know, there are 27 true runes in knowledge for Suikoden and only 18 were disclosed.” He says he tried to keep the series alive for eight years at Konami without success, but believes that if these remasters are successful, there is hope that a sixth game will be released.
This means that, barring major misses, both should be released in 2023. Suikoden one as well as 2together with Eiyuden Chronicle. Like buses they are.
