Knockout City celebrates its first anniversary, with the inevitable free-to-play

The Switch has some pretty good free-to-play options, and June will join their ranks. As a reminder, Knockout City will be free-to-play on June 1; Developer Velan Studios (also known for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit) will also part ways with EA and take over publishing duties.

The game’s Season 6 will launch on the same day, and it certainly looks like a new opportunity for the dodgeball multiplayer extravaganza. We liked a lot in our review, but there’s also the inevitable reality that some of us will opt out of it, or perhaps play the extensive free trial but then not make the leap to purchase. No doubt Velan Studios has taken notice of the success of free-to-play games like Rocket League, and of course Fall Guys will be free-to-play when it arrives on Switch and Xbox on June 21st.

Either way, the video at the top of the page is well worth watching, and this scribe is certainly tempted to try Knockout City again in June. The sixth season will be called “City of Tomorrow”. take a look if you want full details.

Let us know in the comments if you plan to give it a try or vice versa if you’ve been playing it since launch!
