This April, as junior high school students across Japan move to high school, a new type of specialized educational institution will open its doors. This school, called “Esports High School” in English, is called Esports Kouto Gakuin (e ス ポ ー ツ 高等 学院). Here is the school official site…
The school is supported by the eSports organization of the telecommunications giant NTT. and the Tokyo Verdy esports team, a Japanese professional soccer team.
The school is located in the trendy Shibuya district of Tokyo, and, as you’d expect, the interior of the school is eSports chic.
This ooooooooooooooooooooo is different from normal universities.
There are 40 students in eSports High School. Galleria XA7C-R37 Gaming PCs with Intel Core i7-11700 Processor, and is equipped with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 graphics cards. While the school’s website does not indicate which games students will play, the genres listed are what you expect from first-person shooters, third-person shooters, real-time strategy games, and MOBAs.
The teachers are eSports players and industry representatives who share their experiences with high school students.
Students not only learn video games but also learn v standard Japanese school curriculum. There is also a one-to-one training program for those who have difficulties with standard training – a truly welcome option.
The high school website lists the careers of prospective graduates including VR creator, game writer, 3DCG designer, game designer, special effects creator, and programmer. Some of these options may require additional education at a specialized school or university. Other career options include streamers and esports pros.
In January, the school will host an open campus at its site in Shibuya. There is no word yet on how It is costly for students to attend high school esports.
