Japanese charts: Splatoon 3 physical sales are splashing across the competition

If you keep a close eye on the news, Famitsu’s Japanese charts this week will be pretty predictable. Splatoon 3 hit all the charts, and in the week of September 5-11, the third squid-based shooter sold just under a staggering price. 2 million copies.

These are only physical copies, of course. Of course, we say “only” with a mountain of salt and irony, because in just three days, Splatoon 3 broke the sales record in Japan, selling almost 3.5 million (digitally and physically). 1,934,680 boxed retail copies sold, an unprecedented figure.

So, what’s the next best-selling game of the week? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This game may be five years old, but 12,605 copies compared to 1.9 million looks very tiny. And lifetime physical sales of Mario Kart 8 (and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) are nearly 5 million in Japan. After this week, Splatoon 3 sales will drop, but it will be interesting to see if the sales numbers remain stable until the end of the year.

In short, the Switch is once again dominating the charts with nine of the top ten spots. Earth Defense Force 6 is the only PlayStation 4 game to join Splatoon 3, as this week’s other new addition is MAGES.” action game Alice Gear Aigis CS: Simulatrix Concert.

As you’d expect from Splatoon 3’s dominance, the Switch holds the top three spots on the hardware sales charts, and the OLED more than doubles last week’s sales figures, selling almost 150,000 units. This Splatoon 3 OLED screen is probably helping a lot and will probably continue to do so as it is so damn good. As a result, the impressive last few weeks of the PlayStation 5 are over, but both disc and digital devices sit comfortably under the Switch.

  1. Switch OLED Model – 148,377 (2,525,961)
  2. Switch – 27 859 (18 666 760)
