I’m concerned about your lack of voices: adding dialogue to the new LEGO Star Wars

Summary

  • Writer LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga talking about the conversation.
  • The collaboration resulted in an authentic, fun and cinematic experience.
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga available today for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The Star Wars movies have some of the most iconic dialogue in cinematic history, but our original lego star wars the games contained none of that. Not “Never tell me the odds” or “Hi” or “I hate sand.” However, people didn’t mind as the LEGO games were a different beast at the time; a cheerful, mimicking beast, moreover. Over time, these games have become classics, and a whole generation of gamers are rightfully nostalgic for them. However, when it came to creating LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – Available now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S – We wanted to create a whole new experience, not just a remaster. This meant that we had the option to add dialogue.

An old Jedi once said, “The ability to talk doesn’t make you smart,” but it allows you to parody classic movie moments in a way we haven’t done before. Besides just making people laugh, including these iconic phrases can add an extra layer of Star Wars authenticity.at. These original games are hard to follow, but given that it’s a whole new experience, we hope fans will appreciate the sound of Anakin’s Palpatine-style alarm yelling “Dew!”

Movies are full of iconic lines, so for the story missions and cutscenes, we started by using as much dialogue as possible from the movie. Fans may not notice that large chunks of dialogue in the cutscenes have been recorded to match the lines of the film up to the frame, but hopefully they will feel this authenticity.

When it came to writing original material, it was important that the lines feel important to either the design, the story, or the character. Each line should either guide the player, make them laugh, or make the characters feel alive. Maintaining lines of voice is much easier for characters like Han Solo, who we all grew up with. However, it’s a bit more difficult for lesser known characters like Yaddle for example. Does she have an inexplicable Northern English accent? Probably no. Does she speak in the same rhythm as Yoda? Well, good question.

The Lucasfilm Games team were great and were always there to ensure authenticity while allowing us to bring our own special humor to the process. It’s also worth noting that not all characters speak Galactic Basic (English). We have a lot of alien languages like Java and Ewok. There was a moment when I spent so much time writing dialogues in Hattese that I answered the phone calls: “Chuba da naga?” My devotion was so deep that my family and confused telemarketers were worth it.

Once we’ve finalized all the dialogue, it’s time to put together our fantastic cast. Voice recording sessions are such a fun part of the process, but they can also be quite challenging. There is a lot of pressure to make everything perfect in such a short amount of time. Luckily, I had help in the form of Star Wars Holocron Man, Matt Wood. This man is a member of the Star Wars royal family and I could listen to his stories for hours. Alas, studio time is not cheap. Not only did he direct numerous sessions, but he also voiced several characters. In fact, Matt wasn’t the only Star Wars: The Clone Wars alum to return to the stand, which, as a fan, was very exciting.

I think one of my favorite parts of the game is the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin at the end of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, simply because it’s all performed by James Arnold Taylor and Matt Lanter. It’s so great to hear how these iterations of characters play out that climactic scene. Then, to top it off, Sam Witwer’s Emperor Palpatine appears with a fishing rod to fish out what’s left of his apprentice. We really wanted to focus the game on nine movie sagas, so bringing in some Star Wars: The Clone Wars actors was a great way to show love for the wider Star Wars universe, and I’m so glad we were able to do that.

By weaving dialogue into the game, I think we’ve found a new way to parody these films, but I can only take credit for a fraction of the midi-chlorian. Everyone has been hard at work trying to make this Star Wars gameplay the best it can be. However, Master Yoda once said, “Don’t try. To do or not to do. There’s no attempt”, so it’s up to the fans if we made it or not. I hope we have. May the Force be with you always.
