Hunt monsters in diorama battlefields in Bleak Sword DX coming this year to Switch

Bleak Sword was released on Apple Arcade back in 2019 and has since received positive reviews across the board. Now the title is taking the leap from a decidedly complex mobile app to a brutal Switch game, as Devolver Digital announced that Bleak Sword DX will shy away from making the jump to a Nintendo console this year.

For those who have never experienced the game in its original form before, let us bring you up to date. Bleak Sword, developed by more8bit, takes you through a series of chapters (nine in the mobile game, 12 this time). ) to break the curse by getting rid of any monsters, creatures, or any other beasts that come your way.

However, what is striking about this title is how each of these chapters takes place on a compact diorama-like battlefield. You can see the entire arena laid out in front of you (great!), although that means you have nowhere to hide (not that great). The retro-inspired pixelated aesthetic really lets it shine here, with the crunch of a heroic protagonist paired with fluid attacks, dodges, and parries.

To better understand what this updated version of the game is about (and look at some important screenshots), check out the following information from Devolver Digital:

HARD NEW GAME MODES
· DX includes all original Grim Sword chapters plus three DLC chapters with new levels and enemy layouts.
· Randomizer throws players into a remixed version of the original game where leveling up or facing bosses in order is not guaranteed.
· Boss Rush challenges players to fight all 12 bosses back-to-back with only one health bar

DYNAMIC GAME IMPROVEMENTS
New attacks, parries and counterattacks complement an optimized control system designed specifically for PC and consoles, while improved enemy AI makes them more unpredictable.

AMAZING GRAPHIC IMPROVEMENTS
New post-processing effects, adaptive depth of field and a range of filters Grim Sword DX fresh paint, while particle effects, foliage and weather improvements bring a new level of atmosphere and immersion to the world.

Publishers have yet to provide an exact release date for this, as the title is currently only slated for 2023. But after this trailer piqued our interest, we’ll be sure to keep you posted as we get more information!
