Nintendo executives are known for taking home rather modest amounts of money compared to their Western counterparts. Last year, we reported that the top three directors of Nintendo – Shuntaro Furukawa, Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi – each receive between $1.75 million and $3 million in yen-to-dollar terms.
Compared to the likes of Bobby Kotick (who, according to NME, earns about $77,306 an hour) and other similar Western executives, this is certainly not an absurd amount of money and probably reflects more what people in such positions are worth. This year, the amount received by the directors remains about the same; we once again converted the amounts to dollars, and then the official results in Japanese yen.
Shuntaro Furukawa – $2.3 million
Shigeru Miyamoto – $1.8 million
Shinya Takahashi – $1.4 million
The results come against the backdrop of another strong year for Nintendo, although it has seen a bit of a downturn since the pandemic/lockdown boom. Subsequently, Nintendo predicted a drop in profits and sales for the next financial year.
