Gyroids Crossing Animals – How to Find Gyroid Fragments and Grow Gyroids in New Horizons

Gyroids are back, baby – and for people who have played Animal Crossing games before, we’ve already experienced all the emotions that make us experience gyroids. First, confusion: what are they doing? Then the horror: why are they buried? Then curiosity: let’s put one in my house and immediately after that the fun (or horror again) will start when they start making sounds.

But for anyone new to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you might have a few questions about how to get these weird little guys into your life!

It’s a little more complicated than it used to be, so even if you’re a die-hard AC fanatic, you can still find new information here …

Where do you find gyroids?

Gyroids are buried in the ground like fossils – and they will look like little star-shaped holes that you are ready to dig. However, they will not appear on your home island. You will have to take the Kapp’n Boat Tours, which will take you to brand new islands where you will find everything new, including gyroids!

However, you won’t get the whole gyroid this time. You will unearth a gyroid fragment, but fear not – this is all you need to get a new companion for your home. We’ll come back to this a bit later!

You can only do one boat trip per day, so be sure to dig all the spots on the island!

What do gyroids do?

The gyroids are singing, the statues are dancing. Their noise and appearance depends on which gyroid you have, and they’ve even been redesigned for New Horizons – they were quite creepy and similar to New Leaf, but now they’re pretty cute.

All of their names are rough descriptions of the noise they make, for example “boioing” and “twang” with “oid” at the end.

They will also sync with whatever music you play nearby, so you can have a whole gyroid choir in your house or outdoors, dance and sing along to the best KK Slider hits!

Here’s an example with Squeak:

What should I do with the gyroid fragments?

It’s simple: just dig a hole on your island, bury the fragment and water it. If you did everything right, it will start to smoke – try not to think too much about what that means. The next day you will have an adult gyroid!

You can put gyroids on the ground, on tables, and in general wherever you can put a lamp, for example. You can even decorate with gyroid fragments if you like the freshly dug look.

They can be sold too, but they don’t cost a lot of money.

Are there any Nook Miles awards for gyroids?

You are placing your bet! There is a 300 mile reward for finding your first (you will also receive the Rain Soaked and Gyroid titles), and then you will aim for three levels of Gyroid Getter.

The first level is 5 gyroids (titles “Distinctive” and “Curator”), the second is 15 gyroids (“Fancy” and “Statue”), and the third is 20 gyroids (“Roman” and “Symbol”).

We’re very excited to know which are the cutest / weirdest / loudest gyroids, and hopefully you can find many of your own with this guide! Let us know in the comments if you’ve found a favorite yet.
