Ganteh 2 is a return to the good old caveman shooter genre. It’s a dual-stick shooter inspired by classics like Push, oids, Geometric Wars, and asteroids. For me, this is a return to the origins of a game developer. I’ve been making games for almost 30 years, mostly for big studios as a lead programmer or project manager, but it all started as a prequel to this very game when I was in high school while still living with my parents.
After a couple of decades as a professional game developer, there was a time when I decided to settle down, start a family, and do something far more boring than making games. Then one day my kids found out that their father had been making games before they were even born. For them, it was like finding out that their father was a rock star!
I didn’t want to be an ex, so that spark was enough to get me back into game development. I decided to start with what I know and create a sequel to my very first game: a game that took 30 years to make! It took me a total of four years to get to this point, but in the end, Gantek 2 ready.
Gantek 2 is a continuation Utopos, a game I made in the early 90s. It was released for Atari in 1993. Ganteh that was the name of the continuation of my work, which was never completed – until now. At the time, computers were in their infancy, so now that this game is running on Xbox Series X at 4k at 60fps, you can think of it the way it was always meant to be.
When I’m developing a game, I pay a lot of attention to visuals and gameplay. I play with light, shadows and colors to create an atmosphere. There are an incredible number of projectiles flying in space, each of which is a light source, and almost every light source casts a shadow. Every detail of how each enemy explodes, I carefully balanced until I felt everything was in order.
Gantek 2 takes you on an adventure through the asteroid belt. You control a rocket ship in a hostile space where enemies hide behind every rock. You have to explore five different worlds and complete a long list of missions. My favorite world is the one where the solar system is facing a terrible virus that threatens all of humanity. To save the world, you’ll need to chase down the viruses (which in the game are rocket ship-sized monsters), destroy the labs that the monster viruses come from, and ultimately fight the giant virus boss.
Along the way you will encounter dozens of different space aliens. Each world ends with a truly epic boss. What does a space dragon sound like? One of the perks of being an indie developer is that if you have an idea and want to launch a dragon into space, no one will stop you. The enemies and bosses you will face are really special!
One of my goals in creating Gantek 2 was to make a game that would appeal to everyone, both young and old gamers. This game should appeal to those who remember the early gaming years and love retro games, but should also appeal to a younger audience who may not have been born when such games were popular.
I must thank my four children, ages 6 to 14, for supporting me in achieving this goal. Controlling a shooter with two joysticks turned out to be quite difficult for a 6-year-old child, so I ended up adding a cooperative multiplayer mode for 4 players. In co-op mode, you can choose the difficulty for each player separately, so now younger kids can join the easy difficulty and enjoy unlimited lives and stronger shields, while more experienced players face challenges in normal or hard mode. . It works great and is a lot of fun.
We had so many great moments with kids exploring space together! What’s more, it also inspired my kids to become game developers, so now they’re all learning to code, making art, and making their first game of their own. One day we will make a game together!
If you love shooting games, I made this game for you. Join the fun and play today!

The space station Utopos was the new hope of humanity. It failed. Never underestimate human greed. Your task is to put things in order. Fight alien life forms, save scientists, deliver vaccines to fight the deadly pandemic. Guntech 2 is the ultimate retro shooter set in space. Some would call it a cave flyer. Whatever you call it, one thing is for sure – the game is full of non-stop action, loads of weapons and powerful explosions!
